The speaker that doubles as a light has been especially popular. Could the docking station/toaster be the next combo to take the electronics world by storm?

Gavio certainly hopes so. The company just announced the Toast docking station. Now, before you get too giddy, this speaker dock doesn’t really make toast. It’s just a little conversation piece to get your friends talking about how completely awesome that option would actually be.

So this Toast is not just for breakfast anymore. It works anytime you dock your iPhone or iPod into this appliance-inspired speaker system, offering a little tech treat whenever you need it.

Gavio lists the Toast as having 50mm speaker drivers, 3 watts of total RMS power, and a frequency response of 150Hz to 18KHz. So it’s not going to wake the neighbors, but it does provide a nice conversation piece—and probably matches most kitchens.

For now, Toast is listed as a pre-order item, but there’s no actual information on how you can do that. Expect to hear more info in a few weeks, when the company presents Toast at January’s Consumer Electronics Show.

The time is running out to order holiday gifts online. If that’s not enough to motivate you to go out, this deal just might do it.

For a limited time, hhgregg is offering an instant 3D TV bundle for one low price. You can get the LG 47-inch 47LW5300 Cinema 3D LED HDTV, a 3D Blu-ray player, and four pairs of 3D glasses, for $799.99. The hook on this deal is that you have to go to the store to get it. You’d better hurry, too. The retailer is only offering this discounted package today and tomorrow, or until they run out of stock.

The 47-inch 47LW5300 is one of LG’s passive 3D TVs. This newer technology promises clear images from wider viewing angles. Also, because it’s passive, this set uses lighter 3D glasses, which don’t require charging or any type of batteries— just like the ones at your local Cineplex. That makes it lighter on your face, easier to use, and useful for when you head out to the theater!

Other features include a 2D-to-3D conversion feature, LG’s LED Plus backlighting, TruMotion 120Hz technology, eight picture modes, a USB port, and three HDMI inputs.

Besides the 3D TV, this package includes four pairs of those glasses and a 3D Blu-ray player, so you can start enjoying 3D content right out of the box. That player supports playback of both 3D and 2D Blu-rays. It can also upcovert standard-def DVDs and even play back your CDs as well.

This bundle typically retails for $1,599.97, which means that you can save 50 percent off this purchase and have an instant 3D home theater in time for the holiday. Just remember that this offer is only available in hhgregg stores through tomorrow (December 16, 2011). If you don’t have a store nearby, Amazon has this same package listed through one of its retailers for $954.72, which includes free shipping.

You point, they shoot, end of story. But Samsung has been shaking things up as of late. First, the TL220 and TL225 added a second, 1.5-inch LCD to the front of the camera, making up the company’s 2009 lineup of DualView cams. We’ve never actually seen anyone using them on the street, but Samsung reps insist that they’ve been an absolute hit. Well alright then. This year, CES brought the company’s remote-shooting-enabled SH100, which lets you use a Samsung-branded Android smartphone to frame, zoom, and capture images over WiFi. A rather obnoxious delay doesn’t make this a blockbuster feature, but still, this is pretty imaginative stuff.

Now this week at IFA, the company just introduced yet another completely original (and practical) camera design with its MV800. The camera’s image quality isn’t much to speak of (though we’ve only had a chance to use a pre-production model), but its MultiView flip-up LCD is pretty darn fantastic — in concept, at least. The 16.1 megapixel cam’s entire 3-inch capacitive touchscreen flips from flush with the rear up to a 180-degree angle (and anything in between), making it possible to not only shoot perfectly framed self-portraits, but also to have a direct view of the display when shooting both below, and above eye level. We love to see manufacturers continue to push the envelope when it comes to innovation, but how did the $279 MV800 perform overall? Jump past the break for our impressions.

When viewed directly from the front, the MV800 looks just like any other mid-level Samsung point-and-shoot camera. There’s a 26-130mm, f.3.3-5.9 5x optical zoom lens, a super-thin built-in flash, and one of those little orange light things that’s supposed to help the camera focus in low-light. Yeah, the one that alerts your subject of an imminent candid shot, that’s, well, not so candid anymore. There’s also a power button, shutter release, and zoom slider up top — all pretty standard stuff. But flip to the back, and you’ll notice a hinge just above the 3-inch WQVGA display. That hinge is the only point of contact for the display, letting you rotate the thing so it’s inverted above the lens facing forward, position it at a 90-degree angle, a 45-degree angle, or any other position on that single axis. That’ll let you see your subject when holding the camera above your head, for shooting at concerts or at crowded events, or for when you need to be really sneaky, and want to shoot with the camera well below eye level. It’s a very, very cool feature, and since it’s useful for more than just self-portraits, it’ll come in handy for just about any type of photographer.

Beyond that cool little hinge, the display itself has a capacitive touchscreen, which makes it just as responsive to touch as a smartphone. This is key for a touchscreen camera — all manufacturers need to pay attention here, and never, ever release another camera with a non-capacitive touchscreen. Things seem to go downhill from there, unfortunately. While innovative, the display is low-resolution, with a relatively sluggish response rate. A display of this quality isn’t all that uncommon for a camera in this price range, but we’d really love to see Samsung step it up a notch. In fact, if it weren’t for the magical hinge and capacitive touch, this display would have been a complete dud. There is one more pretty nifty feature: you can tap and hold a top-level menu icon and drag it around, reordering main menu options to your liking. A rather minor detail, but one that we do like very much.

While we loved this new display concept (though not necessarily the display itself), the MV800 is definitely not a class-leader when it comes to image quality. In fact, it probably wouldn’t even score in the top half of its class. Many images we shot weren’t in focus, flash-lit images were uneven, and pictures have a significant amount of noise when shot in low light (in “Smart Auto” mode). Whenever we brought up image quality with Samsung reps, they immediately redirected the conversation to the camera’s interface — which is, admittedly, among the best we’ve seen, but can’t compensate for poor image quality (UI makes a tablet, IQ makes a camera). The sample that we tested is pre-production, however, so it’s quite possible that the version you pick up this fall will have vastly improved performance (we can dream, can’t we?).

If you’re buying a camera for the user interface, and a not-so-gimmicky adjustable touchscreen, then you’ll want to pay close attention here — the MV800 may just be a winner. But if image quality reigns supreme, this certainly wouldn’t be our first choice in the sub-$300 price range. Scroll on below for many more details from Samsung, and our very brief hands-on video, shot just a few miles from the IFA exhibit halls in Berlin.

There are some cameras that we absolutely love, some we find downright disappointing and others that get the job done, albeit with mediocre results. Samsung’s digital imaging devices typically fall within that last category — they’re moderately innovative, generally affordable and often well-designed, but when it comes to image quality and performance, we’re left… underwhelmed. So, when we first had a chance to try out the CE giant’s new NX200 at IFA in Berlin, we weren’t expecting a mind-blowing imaging device.

The NX200 is Samsung’s latest entrant into the interchangeable lens (ILC) category — it’s a mirrorless model, to be more precise, and a fairly impressive one at that — at least when you glance at the spec sheet. It’s the company’s latest ILC to use an APS-C size sensor, which is the largest we’ve seen in a mirrorless cam. This sensor type implies that the NX200 may have a chance at competing with Sony’s NEX-C3, which has been our top pick in the category, and its 20.3 megapixel rating suggests that Samsung wants to be taken seriously here, with a true contender on its hands. But has Samsung delivered a winner? Jump past the break for our take.

See on Amazon.com

A video of a Review:

The established commitment to high-quality images may bring return customers, but it doesn’t sell cameras like an attractive design. And the NX200 has the looks it needs to drive sales — it’d be tough to argue that this is an unattractive cam. The sleek black housing is curvaceous and smooth, but doesn’t come without a few quirks. The most peculiar design element is the NX lens mount, which extends beyond the front face by roughly half an inch, and is level with the front of the rather generous camera grip. In an age where sleek and flush designs have become the gold standard, including a mount that juts out this far from the body is a rather bold move.

The camera is comfortable to hold, with a textured patch just below where you’d rest your fingers and a curved design that feels natural in hand. There’s a large Samsung logo positioned in the center of the grip — it’s covered completely when you’re holding the camera, so there’s no need to worry about eager Samsung fans approaching you on the street with a bevy of questions about your purchase. There’s also a standard lens release button up front, along with a green focus lamp — there’s no built-in flash here, though a compact external strobe is included in the box.
Flipping to the back of the camera, you’ll find a 3-inch AMOLED VGA display — perhaps our favorite component on the NX200. In playback, images look fantastic, with accurate color and sharp details, though white balance in preview occasionally differs from what you’ll see in instant playback after capturing an image. While the sensor is ultimately the most important component in any camera, the display clearly plays a critical role in verifying exposure and sharpness, and we really have few complaints here. To the right of the screen, there’s a dedicated record control for activating 1080p video capture, along with exposure compensation, menu, function, playback and delete buttons. There’s also a selection wheel, and a four-position button with dedicated options for display, speed, ISO and AF modes, along with an OK button in the center.

Up top are stereo microphones, a small speaker grill and a full-size hot shoe that’s slightly recessed in order to maintain a near-flush top casing (we would have liked to see Samsung employ a similar design with the lens mount). At the far right is a mode dial, with direct access to manual, automatic and scene modes, a combination power slider/shutter release, and a wheel for zooming into images during playback. Flipping open a solid plastic cover on the right side reveals mini-HDMI and micro-USB ports, while the bottom of the camera includes a tripod connector, and a single compartment housing both the 1030 mAh battery and SD card.

The included 18-55mm optically stabilized kit lens has a maximum aperture of f/3.5-5.6, and a rather large 58mm filter size. It’s a standard manual zoom/focus rig, but with a twist — a customizable function button just above the AF/MF switch provides direct access to aperture, exposure compensation, ISO and white balance settings. It won’t have a significant impact on your workflow, but it’s a welcome feature nonetheless.

See on Amazon.com

Performance and battery life

Sadly, focus is one critical area where the NX200 doesn’t shine. The camera will eventually bring your subject into focus, most often with perfect accuracy, but it can be sluggish at times — naturally in low light, but it was even slow in bright sunlight, where cameras like the Olympus E-P3 excelled. Pre-focusing helps to solve the issue, minimizing shutter lag, but if you have just a fraction of a second to capture your subject, you’re likely to miss the action. The camera can also refocus automatically while capturing video, but there’s a noticeable delay, followed by a sluggish readjustment. Suffice to say, it’s far from ideal.

The camera can power on, focus and fire its first shot in about 1.5 seconds, but in reality, the delay can be several seconds longer when you’re trying to focus on subjects in deep, multi-layered scenes, even in bright sunlight. We took the NX200 for many shoots around a handful of different environments on three continents, and had significant issues getting the camera to focus at times. It would still fire either way, but the on-screen focus confirmation indicator that normally glows green when a subject is sharp would appear red, and the image would be noticeably soft.

Beyond this focus issue, the camera did perform quite well, with a speedy seven-frames-per-second burst mode (at full resolution for up to 11 shots in JPEG or eight in RAW). The 1030mAh battery’s life was also phenomenal — even after shooting 700 images and 25 minutes of 720p video over four days, the indicator still displayed three (out of three) bars, though it’s difficult to tell how that remaining power would translate to actual shooting time. Considering the Pentax Q only let us capture 230 photos and five minutes of video before going caput, we have no complaints here.

Image quality

One of the greatest benefits of using an APS-C sensor is excellent low-light performance, and we were pleased to see that the NX200 does a fine job shooting at high-ISO settings. Noise is barely visible at ISO 800, and non-existent at ISO 200. Looking beyond noise, image quality was on par with other cameras in this category, including the Sony NEX-C3. Colors and exposure were generally spot-on, but when viewed at 100-percent, some details often appeared soft, even on images where a focus lock was confirmed by the camera

We only had one lens to try out, so it’s difficult to determine whether or not low-quality optics were to blame, but considering most users are likely to use this camera (and any other entry-level ILC) with the kit lens, it’s important to evaluate the NX200 as a set. Still, sharpness was where we would expect it to be for a camera in this price range with JPEG compression — no APS-C camera will be able to match a higher-end full-frame camera with pricey optics, like the Canon 5D Mark II, but the NX200′s images will look great on the web (as you can see in the gallery below), or in smaller prints

User interface

We’re quite pleased with the NX200′s interface. The dedicated mode dial up top lets you choose between program, aperture-priority, shutter-priority and manual. Another mode allows you to move control to the on-lens function button, with direct access to a variety of shooting modes, ranging from Backlight to Halftone Dots (though some of these are better left to Photoshop). You can adjust your selection using either the lens-mounted focus ring or the on-camera zoom wheel.

Next up is Samsung’s “Magic” mode, which doesn’t actually work any magic, per se, but instead offers a variety of filters and frames — it’s not quite clear how the deceptive title came into play. There’s also panorama, Scene (which includes the same offering as the lens control mode we outlined above) and Movie modes (though you can use the record button to start filming from most other modes as well), along with Smart Auto, which lets the camera choose the shooting mode automatically based on your subject.

The main system menu is refreshingly simple and intuitive, with settings divided into nine tabbed pages — you shouldn’t have to dig much to make any adjustments. The accessible settings vary based on your current mode, so you only see options for adjustments that are currently available. Three camera pages include options like photo size and Smart Range (HDR), a single page of movie options, two pages of custom options, three pages of general settings and some basic GPS adjustments. Hovering over a setting brings up a vague description, so you’ll need to refer to the manual for more detail.

The competition

The mirrorless ILC category is still in its infancy — we’re just about three years in at this point — but several manufacturers have managed to develop excellent cameras, for every (mid-range) budget. As these compact interchangeable lens cameras become more affordable, and add features that meet, or occasionally go beyond what’s available with full-size SLRs, there’s much more of an incentive for photographers to look towards mirrorless cams to meet their needs. Nikon took an unexpected approach with its grossly-underpowered (but potentially very profitable) 1 System, and Canon has yet to announce any release at all, but there’s no question that mirrorless cams are here to stay, and that we’ll see additional offerings in the months and years to come

We’re still standing behind the Sony NEX-C3 as the best value in this category. It can’t shoot 1080p video and doesn’t offer a 20.3 megapixel sensor like the NX200, but with the Sony, $550 buys you an excellent 16.2 megapixel APS-C ILC with an 18-55mm kit lens, and we have absolutely no complaints at all regarding performance. At $800, the Samsung NX200 is frankly a very tough sell. NX-series early adopters looking to upgrade from the NX10 or NX100 may consider this year’s model to be an obvious choice, but if you haven’t already made in an investment in Samsung glass, we don’t see a compelling reason to start just yet.

Wrap-up

Focusing issues aside, we were generally quite pleased with the NX200. Samsung’s latest ILC offers great image quality and performance, with only a few issues. That doesn’t mean we’ll be making room in our camera bag, though. Sure, it offers 1080p video capture and 20.3 megapixel stills, but unless you need those features, a $800 price tag is simply not competitive enough once you consider Sony’s basic mirrorless offering can be had for $549 — a roughly 30 percent difference in price. In a world where the NEX-C3 didn’t exist, we’d be much more excited about taking the plunge with Samsung, but until South Korea’s darling delivers a true contender at a more affordable price point, we recommend looking elsewhere

Shoppers in parts of Asia have been tapping their smartphones to pay for in-store purchases for years, thanks to a technology called near field communications (NFC). This year the U.S. made strides toward the tech, especially with the arrival of Google Wallet, which allows users to store credit and loyalty cards on their mobile device. A phone equipped with an NFC chip can be tapped on any PayPass-enabled terminal at checkout to make a purchase.

iPhone 5 Rumors

Many expected the next-generation iPhone 5 to be unveiled on Oct. 4 2011 after the company invited press to its Cupertino, Calif. headquarters to its “Let’s talk iPhone” event. Instead, Apple unveiled the iPhone 4S. Although the new device is a highly-advanced smartphone, many were disappointed by its release since they were expecting a next-generation model.

iPhone 4

It may not have been the iPhone 5, but Apple did introduce its smartest smartphone yet: The iPhone 4S. The exterior may look the same as the iPhone 4, but it boasts a faster and more advanced interior. Along with an 8-megapixel camera, iCloud capabilities and access to the Sprint network, it also comes with powerful voice recognize software Siri, which serves as a virtual assistant. Apple founder and tech visionary Steve Jobs died following a long battle with pancreatic cancer just one day after the iPhone 4S debuted.

QR Codes

Two-dimensional quick response, or “QR,” codes started to pop up more in digital and print marketing campaigns in 2011 to provide consumers with more access to related information on the Internet. When an image of the code is captured by a quick response scanner or mobile phone camera, the user’s device is connected to an abundance of information, social media sites or coupons related to the product or marketing campaign.

Sears and Kmart integrated the concept into their holiday marketing initiatives. For example, they placed billboards in highly-trafficked areas such as airports and train stations with toy product pictures and corresponding QR codes to encourage on-the-go shoppers to make purchases.

Mobile Gaming Explodes

Sure, Angry Birds was hugely popular in 2010, but the growth of mobile games continued to soar in 2011. According to a report by Nielson, games were the most popular type of apps among smartphone users, beating out search, maps/navigation, and social networking and music apps for the top spot. In addition, a whopping 93% of all users are willing to pay for a mobile game. The overall app market continued to grow as well. In fact, the first-ever physical app store opened in Colorado, where shoppers can browse apps, get advice and receive app recommendations from in-store experts.

Android Becomes Leading OS

Statistics from The Nielsen Company revealed that Google’s Android mobile operating system climbed to the top spot of the U.S. smartphone market, beating out competitors such as Apple (iPhone) and Research in Motion (BlackBerry).

The Cloud

Along with the unveiling of Apple’s latest operating system iOS 5 and Mac OS X Lion, it introduced its highly-anticipated iCloud service, which stores music, photos, apps and more, and wirelessly pushes them to all of your devices automatically. Google also launched a similar music service earlier in the year, which allows users to upload their existing music libraries so they can be streamed from mobile devices and other computers.

Carrier IQ Controversy

The scandal surrounding a diagnostic program called Carrier IQ installed on millions of mobile phones worldwide became the center of attention – and the focus of several lawsuits — when news circulated that it was logging user activity and relaying at least some of that information to wireless carriers. The carriers said they will use that information to improve their networks, but the software’s tracking of users’ mobile behavior has raised a series of privacy concerns.

Samsung’s personal media tablets have finally hit U.S. store shelves. The Galaxy Player 4 and 5 run the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS and offer users full access to Google’s Android Market for apps as well as offering Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, 1GHz Samsung processors, 512MB of RAM, microSD card slots with support for up to 32GB microSD cards, and dual cameras. The difference between the two devices is the touchscreens. The 4 sports a 4-inch WVGA Super Clear LCD display and the 5 features a larger 5-inch WVGA TFT LCD display screen. The Samsung Galaxy Player 4 and 5 are available now in the U.S for $229 and $269, respectively.

Comfortable, ergonomic design. Excellent music player. Good universal remote control app. And… Ta – daaa!

After Amazon and Apple, Sony tried to get into business. But did it ok? We’ll see…

First of all, Sony S tablets are kinda more specific compare to apple and amazon tablets. What i mean is the tablets are not so compatible for all online and multitesk business. For instance, it doesn’t pull Sony’s multimedia services together in a convincing way. I still can not believe Sony did make an amazing-designed tablet and forgot to put an integrate program into it! I think it designed and launched to market in a hurry due to fear of being lag.

Secondly, in general of Sony tablet S’s, ultimate battery life is 4 hours, 45 minutes! Within programs and applications it will decrease. If we look at to applications, multimedia service of Sony is great as Apple’s. Sony App Store, Sony games, ubisoft is all great. Moreover, there’s a 5-megapixel camera on the tablet’s back and a 0.3-megapixel camera for video up front which are amazing! Also music player is better than Apple and Amazon.

An addition: the universal remote control app is excellent. I tried it with Samsung, Sharp, and Insignia TVs and TiVo and Dish set-top boxes, and it’s quick and responsive, unlike the Peel Remote app on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. The button layout isn’t quite as attractive as on dedicated hardware remotes, but it gets the job done.

In conclusion, sum of all these features is a little engrossing. Is it worth to pay 400$-500$?

Well… That is a lie! Ooor, let me say this way, it is not working on Kindles. They are cheap Soo cheap and qualified!

Amazon suprisely attempted to become a part of Electronic gadget bazaar. And succeeded it! And Kindle is biggest part that success.

Kindle is simply a device which capable of so many things that computer does: İnternet, Display E-book, Online Shopping, Games, Taking Photos etc. It has not Every thing that an i-pad has but it is much more successful on some categories than i-pads: E-booking and Online shopping. Also, definetely good for budget

Kindles are not the gadgets of 2011, Amazon introduced them in 2007 first. However, they are recently becoming modest phenomenon. And i say kindle deserves to be in 2011′s gadgets list. Take a look for features closely:
